DEVOLVED Complete Pre-Production For New Album

July 26, 2003

Australia's premier tech-metal band DEVOLVED have almost completed pre-production for the follow-up to 2001's "Technologies". 12 songs are set for inclusion on the as-yet-untitled album, two of which will be limited-edition bonus tracks. Among the studio working titles slated to be included on the effort are "Biotics", "Hybrid of Symmetry", "Vex", and "Prototype". Also likely to appear on the album are re-recorded versions of "Derivative", "Impute" and "Assimilate", previously released on the "Automation 001" EP, and a re-recorded version of METALLICA's "Battery", which until now has only been available as a bonus demo track in Japan. DEVOLVED management have also confirmed that a guest guitarist will perform with the band in the studio on the "Battery" recording.

Commented guitarist Brett Noordin: "The band decided to leave the continuation of the 'Automation' EPs for future release as our writing and recording timeframe was prolonged after my arm was badly injured in a vehicle accident at the end of last year, and our drummer John Sankey relocated temporarily to Los Angeles to fulfill other musical commitments [it has since been revealed that Sankey has joined the new group formed by ex-FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares and ex-LIQUID GANG singer Jose Maldonado—ed.]. Those incidents were a setback for the band's schedule, but now we have a full album ready to go full of absolute chaos! 'Automation 002' and '003' are still definitely planned for release down the track as part of the DEVOLVED catalogue."

While all music has been written for the as-yet-untitled album, both Noordin and Sankey are now busily completing the lyrics.

Says Sankey, "As with 'Technologies', we have really concentrated on making the lyrics very strong and provoking, which will once again set the theme of DEVOLVED. Expect thoughts and images of darkness, confusion, disorder and total insanity!"

As previously reported, DEVOLVED are still seeking a full-time vocalist. Noordin has handled vocal duties up until this point since the departure of Nik Carpenter last year, but both band and management have decided to hold auditions for anyone who feels they have what it takes to be a part of the DEVOLVED chaos. Applicants will need to be familiar with the DEVOLVED material. Those genuinely interested should contact [email protected] and leave relevant information such as age, location, experience etc. All mail will be answered with further details.

The new DEVOLVED album is tentatively scheduled to be released in late 2003.
